Case Study: [Manufacturer] : Shipping and Content Records Management
Brief
Client needed a solution to process shipping labels and integrate with content records management. Becoming Machinic created a solution to replace three tools the client was paying for previously.
Problem
The client had “spooled” files on their AS/400 (IBM i) going into output queues that were being monitored by a service job and converted into PDFs with a form template applied. This was a “pull” rather than a “push” solution, meaning that each print task took a few minutes on average to process, leading to delays in their warehouse and other departments.
Solution
This solution redirected the spooled files to data queues (instead of output queues), which pushed them to the appliance, giving them the same output from the same input, faster, and allowing them to stop paying for the three products that had been doing this previously.
Process
The shipping clerk submits shipping labels to a virtual printer, with a simple prompt to verify extracted keyword data before submitting the file to a content records management system. Data and documents are sent through machinic.io to generate a PDF based on a form template and to check the document into the appropriate folder in the content records management system, with the approved keyword data. The Nomad appliance is running on-premise on client’s ESXi infrastructure.
