Case Study : AODocs: Google Sheets Print-to-Email
Brief
End-users of the client (vendor) experienced limitations with their print-to-pdf function for spreadsheets and Google Sheets. Vendor white-labeled a machinic.io process for automatically managing printing of said document types. Parent company is French, and GDPR was an additional requirement.
Problem
When end users printed spreadsheets and Google Sheets to PDF, the scaling factors were often wrong, columns were cut off in inappropriate places, and empty columns were unnecessarily included in the output. Client had no tooling appropriate to intelligent document manipulation, and no internal expertise available to develop such tooling.
Solution
Machinic created a fully automated, seamless solution to provide the client with single-click printing and PDF conversion.
Process
When end users select the print feature in AODocs for applicable document types, an AODocs service submits the file and desired output paper size to an endpoint at machinic.io.
The document is analyzed to remove empty rows and columns, and to determine an appropriate scaling factor to produce a readable document that fits the paper size selected. The resulting PDF is emailed to the requesting user.
